The Salone dei Cinquecento is the largest room of its kind in Italy — built for the republic's great council, then rebuilt and painted by Vasari for the Medici. Two lost battle frescoes by Leonardo and Michelangelo were begun on these walls and never finished.
The tower can be climbed separately and gives you the Duomo, the Uffizi and the Arno in one turn.
The courtyard just inside the door is free to walk into, and is one of the prettiest spaces in the city.
