Brunelleschi rebuilt San Lorenzo from 1419 and it is the clearest statement of what he was doing: grey pietra serena for every line, white plaster between, and arithmetic holding it together. The facade was never finished and is still bare brick.
The New Sacristy is Michelangelo's — the Medici tombs with Day, Night, Dawn and Dusk sprawled across them, and an architecture of blind windows and brackets that does not obey any of the rules he had been taught.
⚠️ The church, the Laurentian Library and the Medici Chapels are separate entrances with separate tickets, which surprises people.
